Serving in many different areas of ministry Shane Smith has a passion for creative arts and seeing people get connected on deeper levels through small groups. He has a passion for people overlooked by society and even the church. Shane studied religion and public relations at Milligan College and comes to us from Mt. Vernon, Il. He graduated with an M.Div from Emmanuel Christian Seminary. He is recently married to his beautiful wife Ashley. Shane is a baseball fanatic and loves his St. Louis Cardinals. • Carlene Eastridge Music Director

Carlene grew up in Nashville. She earned her Bachelor of Music from Belmont University and Master of Music from UT in Knoxville (thus, a Vol fan!). While serving as Director of Music in her second church, she met and married husband Vance, a United Methodist minister. Upon his retirement, they and son Brad moved to Johnson City. Carlene taught at Milligan College before opening her own teaching studio and allowing her to work with children, her. She has been organist at CHPC since fall of 2003, and is now serving as the interim music director. Carlene loves to work in her yard, hike, eat out, read, and play with Haydn the cat.

  • Jan Mciver Office manager

Jan was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended Trinity College in Dunedin, Florida. While in Florida, she met her husband, Gene, in a local church and they were married two years later. They spent the first 32 years of our marriage in the Clearwater and Hudson, Florida area, where they raised their three children—David, Sarah and Nathan. In May of 2009 Jan and Gene moved to the Kingsport area to be closer to her family. It is so great to be back in Tennessee and enjoying mountain views once again!

Jan's hobbies include spending time with her family, playing with their granddaughter, gardening, taking long walk with her dogs, baking bread and reading.

  • Gretchen Bentley Childrens director

My name is Gretchen Ottenfeld Bentley and I am a child of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. I was raised in the church and was active in all the youth activities until I left to go to college in 1972. I was married at CHPC in 1973 and we moved to Piney Flats, TN and were very active in the Piney Flats Presbyterian Church until we returned to Colonial Heights in 1988. We returned to CHPC and have been here since then. In 2013 I felt called to be the childrens director when our previous director resigned. The staff accepted my call even though I had never done this kind of work before and it has truly been a rewarding experience. I am living proof that God will not leave you or forsake you when you are serving him. I have developed a love for others children that is amazing and have met so many wonderful parents during my service. I don't know what God has in store for me in the future but I will hang on for the ride.

  • Patti Garrett childrens director

Patti Garrett was born and raised in Easley, SC as one of four children, where she grew up in the United Methodist church. Patti has a BS in Design (Architecture) and a MS in Graphic Communications from Clemson University. She has worked as a project manager for graphic design/printing corporation, as well as a project manager in Community Development for the City of Lafayette, Indiana. Most recently, however, she has been a full time project manager/mom for the Garrett family with her husband, Chris, and two children since their family moved to Kingsport in 2007. Patti really enjoys helping to plan events that bring the church family together to worship, fellowship, learn about God, and have fun at the same time. She also loves working with the children and their parents at CHPC and being able to watch their faith grow.
