Fall/Winter 2020

Second Harvest Food Distribution

Thank you to everyone who volunteered! 20 of us represented CHPC on December 12 and packed 898 food boxes! Your continued prayers are appreciated for the organization, the people working and volunteering, and our neighbors who are struggling this year.

CHPC's Blessing Box

A Blessing Box is a container stocked with non-perishable food items, basic hygiene supplies and baby items-- things that would be a blessing to someone who finds themselves in need.

ANYONE is welcome to take items, and anyone can provide items for the box. The simple motto is: Take What You Need. Leave What You Can. The box is meant to fill the gap for those in need.

The box is located next to the parking lot in front of the church/Jones building. Feel free to drop by anytime and make a “deposit.” Canned goods, non-perishables, individually wrapped snack items, personal care and baby items are appropriate. Please NO GLASS OR SHARP ITEMS.

International Mission

In the Spring of 2017 we began a long term partnership with a network of churches in Lebanon and Syria.  We are excited to support the ministries of our sisters and brothers in Christ in the Middle East.  This new relationship is just beginning to form.  We are planning future trips and conversations.  We are excited to see where God is leading us.  If you want to know more about this partnership you can click below to watch the announcement and introduction of this partnership.

Holston Habitat for Humanity

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. Colonial Heights Presbyterian has been involved with Habitat for Humanity over twenty three years. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that seeks to share the love of Christ by creating partnerships with communities, families and volunteers to improve the quality of life for families in need by providing simple decent housing and opportunities for home ownership. Our church has completed over 25 homes. We’re beginning our plans for a next build. Volunteers are needed for construction, food for builders, and scheduling and organization.

Living Waters for the World

LIVING WATERS FOR THE WORLD. LWW is a ministry sponsored by the Synod of the Living Waters which comprises the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee. LWW trains members of churches and civic organizations to install water purification systems in homes and communities that do not have access to municipal water systems both in the United States and internationally. CHPC became involved in this mission in 2010. So far, our team has installed a water system in a home in Tazewell, Tennessee and is scheduled to install several others in the next two years. Team members install the system, and train and counsel homeowners in its use and maintenance.

Hope Haven Ministries

HOPE HAVEN MINSTRIES. Hope Haven is a ministry based in Kingsport that provides shelter and opportunities for the homeless. Hope Haven provides temporary shelter, job search and work programs and programs for the handicapped and for pregnant women in need. Our church provides monetary support for this worthy charity and many members of our church have served on the Board of Directors and as volunteers.

Other Mission Partners

BLOOD ASSURANCE. CHPC is a member of the blood assurance program in which members are encouraged to donate blood on a regular basis. In return, our members receive blood free in time of medical need.

WAVERLY ROAD FOOD BANK. CHPC donates regularly to the food bank at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, giving both food items and monetary donations.

SPECIAL OFFERINGS AND PROJECTS. We participate in the following activities as a part of the mission of our church

  • One Great Hour of Sharing: Every Easter Sunday, an offering is collected that goes to help the poor and afflicted both locally and abroad. This offering supports the Presbyterian Church’s disaster relief fund and programs feed the hungry and build communities.
  • Pentecost Offering: The proceeds of this offering go towards helping children.
  • Peacemaking Offering: This is collected on World Community Sunday. Proceeds go to peacemaking efforts in the community and throughout the world.
  • Christmas Joy Offering: This offering helps former or current church workers and their families and to provide scholarships to deserving students.

Five-cents-a-meal: This is an offering collected on the first Sunday of the month, where members are encouraged to bring the equivalent of 5-cents for every meal they have eaten for the past month. Proceeds go to feed the hungry in our community.

Souper Bowl: On Super Bowl Sunday, we encourage every congregant to bring either canned food or a monetary donation to be used to fight hunger in our community.

Christmas Angel Tree: For the last few years, members of our congregation have volunteered to provide Christmas gifts to children every year through The Salvation Army Angel Tree project. In past years, we have provided for children in orphanages or the children of prisoners.
